• The Fort of Amir is surrounded by hills and walls but as the population grew there was no place to expand.
• Maharaj Singh in 1727 built the new city of Jaipur. I was designed with a grid with wide streets no dead ends etc. before construction was started.
• The only city we have seen so far that looks ½ way organized.
• 9 blocks were given to the public and 2 the king kept.

The astronomical observatory

• Built by Maharaja Jesse, the 2nd, the same person who got the city built
• observatory was built in 1728 and the main reason to build the observatory was to plan the horoscope which is very important in India and Hinduism.
• As soon as a child is born the first thing that is done is the horoscope; the horoscope from which letter alphabet, the name of the child should start
• The parents arrange the marriage but before they get married the horoscopes must match or the deals off.
